Art Series: The Patrick Scott Pub Wall Blanket

13 reviews
  • As a celebration and to commemorate the 100th birthday of our dear friend Pat Scott we were very pleased to reproduce an exclusive run of 27 of the Pub Wall Blanket. A collaboration with the Patrick Scott Estate and woven by Molloy Weavers, this is the fourth addition to our Art Series after 'Colour' and 'Pub Wall' by Patrick Scott and 'Flight' by Louis le Brocquy.

In 1954, Patrick Scott was commissioned to design textile prints for Irish businessman, John McGuire. 'Pub Wall' was one of the designs created by Scott and was inspired by tiles painted on the walls of Dublin's pubs. The designs were printed onto Irish Linen and taken to New York for an exhibition in 1955.

Seeing a piece of the original fabric in Patrick's house in Dublin we set about the project of reproducing the design. With the help of Peter Lamb, Irish collector, writer, archivist and historian we sourced original pieces of the printed linen and from these, we recreated the artwork. We printed the Pub wall onto Irish Linen. This then subsequently hung at Patrick Scott's Retrospective Exhibition in 2014 at IMMA. For our first STABLE Art Series, we printed a limited edition of 93 scarves in the Pub Wall print on crepe de chine to celebrate Patrick's wonderful life. These are all now sold. Some of you who have been to our shop in Dublin will have seen the large Pub Wall Irish Linen hanging on display.

The Pub Wall Blanket stems from this first project and was a close collaboration with Kieran and Shaun from Molloy & Sons Weavers in Donegal who helped to interpret the design of the Pub Wall for weaving. We will produce 30 blankets in blue and these will be available in the coming weeks.

    Beautiful Turf Mohair Blanket

I love my beautiful new Turf Mohair blanket. It is perfect for my tan leather sofa in my living room and for keeping warm and cosy on winter nights in front of the fire watching telly. I am delighted as well that it is Irish made and I have my eye on the caramel colour for my bedroom as my next purchase :-). Thank you Sonia and Francie for stocking such gorgeous Irish wares. Best, Ann-Marie, Dublin

    A timeless treasure

I purchased a Wicker Blanket as a Christmas gift for my wife a year and a half ago. She absolutely loves it and it is prominently draped in our living room. Guests never fail to comment on it and admire the quality and colors, that exactly match the rooms decor. It is very warm without being heavy. On the cold winter’s nights the blanket is frequently used to add just the right amount of warmth and comfort to end the day.
