We are so pleased to present our rare and precious Pub Wall Blanket. A collaboration with the Patrick Scott Estate and Molloy Weavers.
Background; In 1954 Irish artist and friend Patrick Scott was commissioned to design textile prints for Irish business man, Patrick McGuire. Pub wall was one of the designs created by Patrick and was inspired by tiles painted on Dublin pub walls. The designs were printed onto Irish Linen and taken to New York for an exhibition in 1955. Seeing a piece of the original fabric in Patrick's house in Dublin we set about the project of reproducing the design. With the help of Peter Lamb, Irish collector, writer, archivist and historian we sourced original pieces of the printed linen and from these we recreated the artwork. We printed Pub wall onto Irish Linen. This then subsequently hung at Patrick Scott's Retrospective Exhibition in 2014 at IMMA. We printed a limited edition of 93 scarves in the Pub Wall print on Crepe de Chine to celebrate Patrick's wonderful life. These are all now sold. Some of you who have been to our shop in Dublin will have seen the large Pub Wall Irish Linen hanging on display.
For the Pub Wall Blanket we collaborated closely with Kieran and Shaun from Molloy & Sons Weavers in Donegal. It was no easy project to interpret the Pub Wall design into a blanket weave and Shaun was particularly interested in the challenge. The result follows a couple of years work in the background and we are all so pleased with the result.
