In 1967 Patrick Scott was asked to create a cover for the 1st edition of a new Art catalogue called ROSC. The motif is made up of irregular circles in reference to neolithic stones discovered in the burial chambers in Newgrange Co Meath around that time. The irregular shape of the motif is also reference to an open mouth. Patrick did an oil on panel painting of this motif which is now part of the collection at IMMA in Dublin. Some time later with the same pot of paint he made a reverse image of the ROSC painting which became the Diptych and in effect a repeatable tile. Scott was interested in repeatable patterns which can be seen in his work in colour in particular.
With Eric’s permission and encouragement we worked on an idea to take the ROSC diptych and create a repeatable pattern tapestry. Working with the very brilliant Tony Dixon of Dixon Carpets in Galway we created a one metre repeatable square tile for the diptych in both versions, Tony worked with Patrick on many of his earlier tapestry works so has invaluable knowledge and experience of Scott’s instructions in tufting and finishing.

The ROSC diptych is made to order and can be made in different sizes and repeats as required.
