How to Care for Your STABLE Pieces

Irish design, made local — simple care for linen, wool, cashmere and alpaca

Every STABLE piece is Irish design, made local: many are cut and hand-sewn in our own production studio in central Dublin, then carried on foot to our shop off Grafton Street. Each is made from natural fibres — Irish linen, wool, cashmere and alpaca — chosen because they're kind to your skin, kind to the planet, and built to last a lifetime with the right care. Here's how we recommend looking after each one.

Caring for Irish Linen

Linen is one of the best fabrics out there. Ireland's impressive history as part of its respected reputation globally is just one of the many reasons it features so largely in our collection. Its fine quality feels like a feather against the skin, and its make-up is anti-bacterial and breathable but will remain as good as new for years to come. As a natural fibre, it stays kind to sensitive skin and to the planet. Made from flax grasses, linen can be biodegradable and sustainably produced. Flax also gives us healthy oils and flowers for the bees — a bonus.

With little care, linen will serve you well for many years, and the more you wash it, the softer it becomes. Everyone loves their linen kept differently, but we recommend washing at cooler temperatures — 30 degrees is generally good. To dry, we like to air-dry naturally for an organic crease, or steam-iron for clean lines.

Caring for Wool, Handwoven Herringbone, Fine Weave and Tweed

All of our fine weave and large handwoven scarves are made from wool. Wool is a versatile, 100% natural fibre that responds well to both washing and dry cleaning. If you're comfortable washing your wool jumpers, treat your STABLE wool scarves the same way — a wool wash cycle in your machine, on a low temperature and spin setting. Dry flat. Never tumble dry. If removing creases, use a low setting on your iron.

Caring for Cashmere

Our STABLE cashmere is made to the highest standard on a state-of-the-art knitting machine. We recommend hand-washing with a gentle non-bio detergent. Cashmere loves being washed and gets softer the more you do so. Always squeeze out water by pressing rather than wringing, to avoid stretching the fabric. Dry flat, naturally.

Caring for Alpaca Wool

This natural fibre is widely considered warmer and silkier than most other herd animal fibres, and is often compared to cashmere. Alpacas don't produce lanolin, unlike sheep's wool, which makes it hypoallergenic and a good choice if you're sensitive to other natural fibres. It also has minimal environmental impact: alpacas are shorn only once a year and require little processing to turn the fibre into a luxurious yarn, and their soft hooves don't compact soil or damage vegetation. Dry clean or hand wash in cold water with a non-bio detergent, and dry flat, naturally.
